Ovotrack Scanportal: for better inventory management and checking barcode readability
The Nest Box Egg Company recently installed two case scan portals on their case conveyors to improve the inventory management of finished goods. Ciaran Quinn, production manager at The Nest Box, wants to be sure that his inventory is up-to-date, real-time and accurate at all times. ''Any case that passes the scan portal increases our inventory. And if the barcode on the label is unreadable or the label is missing at all, the case conveyor stops and an alarm light attends my operators to sort the issue". Inventory management is one advantage but Ciaran sees other benefits as well: "by doing this we also make sure every barcode on the case is readable and scannable. That gives us the guarantee that the label is also scannable when it is picked at dispatch by our operators that have to complete shipments.

And it is also a check that our customer barcodes are readable as well so that the don't run in trouble when they want to scan our products during receiving. Last but not least, the extra scans takes any unused labels out of the traceability system. If a label is torn or two labels are printed instead of one, the unused label might stay in your traceability system and you will never find the label because it has not been used at all. Ovotrack has provisions to deal with those labels but this way it's automated and I like that!", Ciaran concludes.
