D.A. Hall increases class A eggs by 2% by combining Ovotrack logic with new grader software options
Don Trefz is Plant Manager of the egg grading plant of D.A. Hall in Australia. With two Moba grading machines and a lot of automation for case packing and case palletizing, the team tries to run the operation with the maximum amount of eggs per hour at the highest possible efficiency per manhour. Day in, day out they are focused on improvement. And the belief is to not go by gut feeling but rather that Decisions and adjustments are made using real time data.
"Our newest grading machine, which we installed only 2 years ago, has a software feature to adjust the settings of our detection systems for every batch. So I decided to use Ovotrack in conjunction with that software feature to automatically change the settings, everytime a new batch is scanned into the grader. Every week we study the figures of each batch and we adjust the crack or dirt settings in Ovotrack. It doesn’t matter which operator is loading the grader, Ovotrack automates it for us."
"Because I can compare the results from both graders, this way of working proved to deliver 2% more class A eggs, whilst running the same productivity per manhour. Our ROI on Ovotrack is counted in months, not in years, Don concludes."
